Top 10 Ways To Cultivate A Biophilic Style
You may have heard the term biophilia a lot over the last few years. It’s been the underlying trend behind popular styles like warm minimalism, organic modern and climate specific styles like desert and coastal modern. It’s a concept that has at its roots in the love of nature and all that is alive. But nature in design and decor is nothing new and even before the term biophilia was coined in the 1970’s, almost all eras incorporated depictions of nature in artwork, textiles and architectural features. Some beautiful examples are the sinuous curves of Art Nouveau, the woodland inspired motifs of the Craftsman era and the wondrous works of architects like Frank Lloyd Wright who believed in creating harmony between people and nature. So, no matter whether you lean toward a modern or more traditional aesthetic, you can bring nature into your spaces directly and indirectly to take advantage of its calming effects.

Also known as Stealth Wealth, it's a movement that prioritizes simplicity and refinement, creating spaces that reflect a sense of style and sophistication without ostentation. 3 Interior Design Ideas for Open Floor Plans
In 2020 and into 2021, there were a rash of obituaries written for the open floor plan, probably due to the frustration of many who had to work and study from home and found it difficult due to a lack of space and privacy. We’re still seeing a few predictions of the demise of the open plan but so far it doesn’t appear to be going anywhere.

5 Interior Design Ideas for Small Living Rooms
Studies show that of all the rooms in our homes, we spend the most waking hours in our living spaces. So how this room looks and functions is really important for our comfort and well-being.
The advantage of a smaller space is that it lends itself to coziness but it can also get more cluttered taking away from the comfort and visual appeal of your home. The first step in designing a small living room that looks great and functions well for you is to define the activities of the space like entertaining, TV watching, playing games or just relaxing.
With those activities in mind, you can use the ideas in this video to create a space that’s as comfortable and functional as it is beautiful.
Modern Coastal Interior Design
Modern Coastal design blends the sleek minimalism of modern design with the beachy feel of coastal design creating spaces filled with clean lines, ocean hues, and a connection to nature.
Nature never goes out of style, so, if done right, Modern Coastal design is a style that you can enjoy and build on for as long as you love it!
Rule of Three
The rule of three is an interior design guideline that says things arranged in odd numbers are more appealing, memorable, and natural than even-numbered groupings.
Three is a manageable number and the minimum for creating a distinguishable pattern but 5, 7, 9 or more can work just as well depending on the application. While even numbers create symmetry, odd numbers create interest. An odd number of details captures our attention and invites our gaze to take in the whole composition. Too much symmetry looks forced and unnatural resulting in a stiff and cold look but balancing symmetrical elements with a little asymmetry softens the look and creates a more relaxed and natural feel.
So whether you’re a minimalist or a maximalist or somewhere in between, let’s take a look at some ways to incorporate the rule of three into your space!
5 Interior Design Practices That Make No Sense
Today we’re going to have some fun with a few questionable and sometimes perplexing design practices.
Sometimes an interior design practice takes hold and, even though it makes no sense, you start to see it everywhere. Just like any idea, there are good ones and bad ones. And just because something is new and different, it doesn’t necessarily make it a good practice. Conversely, just because something caught on and has been done for a long time, doesn’t mean that it should continue to be done if it makes no sense.
We’re going to look at five of these practices and some ideas for what to do instead. This is all in good fun, of course. So if you like these practices, by all means, please continue and enjoy because at the end of the day designing and styling your space is about what makes you happy.
3 Secrets To Decorating With Neutrals
I'm sharing three secrets to decorating with neutrals to create an interior that's timeless, versatile, relaxing and interesting.
Decorating with neutrals is a timeless and versatile way to create a calm and relaxed space. Decluttering Methods for Minimalist Spaces
A home that’s free of clutter is key to designing a minimalist interior. But many of us, myself included, have had limited success in decluttering and it dawned on me that the reason is due to not using and committing to a method of decluttering that would give me long-lasting results.
So I researched three popular methods of decluttering, all very different, to compare them and see which one might be best. Ultimately, if you embark on a decluttering journey, you’ll need to decide which one works best for you.

Japandi combines the ancient Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, a way of life that values slow living, contentment and simplicity, with the Scandinavian practice of hygge, which embraces comfort, coziness and wellbeing. The biggest difference is that Japandi style focuses on the use of natural materials in a deeper, richer palette with more contrast. How To Design With Natural Light
Have you ever noticed that some places just make you happy? You’re probably not even thinking about why. You’re just experiencing the moment and feeling warm, welcomed and elevated. If you were to break it down to its components, I would bet that the quality of light, and particularly natural light, plays a huge role in your experience of that space.
When you’re designing your space, light is everything. It’s the almost indescribable quality that makes or breaks a space. It can make you want to stay and relax or get out of there as fast as possible.
Humans have revered sunlight as a source of light, health and well-being since ancient times. The Romans even had right-to-light legislation and built structures to optimize sun exposure. In the mid 1850’s, Florence Nightingale advocated for sunlit buildings noting that “Direct sunlight, not only daylight, is necessary for speedy recovery.” By the modern era, architect Le Corbusier called on architects to design with sunlight in mind declaring in The Athens Charter, "To introduce the sun is the new and most imperative duty of the architect."
We spend about 90% of our time indoors so spaces with abundant daylight keep us physically and emotionally healthy by regulating our circadian rhythm and boosting the release of feel-good hormones.
Please check out the video for strategies on how to enhance natural light in your space!
